Colorado River Trip

Our first term ended on Fri. So Dad and I celebrated by going on the Colorado River 4 hour Canyon lands by Night and Day tour. Our tour guide and jet boat driver, Rory, told us the river right now is only about 4 feet deep clear across. He showed which pinnacles were used for which commercials, remember one where the guy walks out of his house and base jumps to his car to get to work? It cost over a million to create the ‘set’ up there and then remove it. He and his buddies also watched the filming of “Elma and Louise” when they drove the cars off the cliff into the river, which was supposedly the Grand Canyon. Helicopters were used to haul everything out of the river. The cars were mint condition that were gutted and welded shut then launched like the jets off a carrier. Of course the final shot in the movie only shows the take off instead of the big splash. The tour goes about 32 miles down the river to the national park entrance. The "Grotto", an alcove with fantastic acoustics, is right at the Canyonlands National Park entrance. The river tour companies gets to haul the grand piano, the orchestra, and an audience in for a concert once a year. Being that the tickets are $350 each, we have never gone to any of the performances. This time we located and set up a camp site during the day, so we didn’t end up in an already occupied site. Sunday, we drove out to Island in the Sky National Park up past Dead Horse Point. The weather was beautiful, low 70s with light clouds in a mostly blue sky.
